Apple TV+ Releases First Look At 'Dickinson's Third & Final Season
As Emily Dickinson wrote, "That it will never come again is what makes life sweet." Unfortunately, that will also go for the delightful romp that is the Apple TV+ series that bears her name, Dickinson, which announced at the beginning of September 2021 that Season 3 would be its last. But we should dwell in possibility, as there is a new image from the upcoming season and a teaser promising that there is at least one more round to enjoy. Even better, fans won't have to wait until 2022 to see it. The final season will arrive in time for the holidays.
For those asking why Apple would cancel one of the few truly great things on its streaming service, take heart. According to series creator Alena Smith, three seasons was always what she envisioned for the show, in her quest to tell the story of one of America's greatest poets and foremothers of writing. In a statement along with the series' cancelation, Smith said, "In my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined how rich and satisfying the experience of making this show would become, and the incredible joy it has been to tell Emily's story along with Hailee and our brilliant, passionate cast and crew."
I can't wait to share our epic final season with the world and to bring our audience along with us to the conclusion of Emily's coming-of-age saga, as she continues to fight for her own poetic truth while reckoning with so many of the issues that face us now. Thank you to Hailee Steinfeld and our entire Dickinson team for making this such an unforgettable creative journey. I'm grateful for my partnership with Apple and can't wait to continue telling more original stories with them in the years ahead.
Though the teaser for the new season is short, it looks as if it will be one worthy of the show's exit.

In the third season, Emily Dickinson's most productive time as an artist falls amid the raging American Civil War and an equally fierce battle that divides her own family. As Emily tries to heal the divides around her, she wonders if art can help keep hope alive and whether the future can be better than the past.
Hailee Steinfeld will return as Emily Dickinson for the show's final run of episodes. (And don't worry, it's not as if Steinfeld's going anywhere after this. Her next significant role will be as Kate Bishop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Disney+'s Hawkeye.) Most of the cast will be back, including Toby Huss, Adrian Blake Enscoe, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, Amanda Warren, Chinaza Uche, Jane Krakowski, and recurring guest stars Wiz Khalifa as Death, Zosia Mamet as Louisa May Alcott, and Will Pullen as Nobody. New guest stars for the final season will include Ziwe as Sojourner Truth, Billy Eichner as Walt Whitman, and Chloe Fineman as Sylvia Plath.
Dickinson's final season will consist of ten episodes. The first three drop on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, with one a week to follow, with the series finale arriving on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. Seasons 1-2 are streaming on Apple TV+.
