Amazing Internet Things: Downton Abbey Does One Direction

So, this new trend of making spoken word mash-up versions of hit songs using popular figures from pop culure is a bit strange and silly (and I totally blame President Obama and Carly Rae Jepsen for making it a thing in the first place), but it’s hard to resist something that’s as cute as this particular version turns out to be.

Most Downton Abbey fans are in need of a bit of a pick me up after the emotional devastation of the Series 3 finale, and this bit of ridiculous fluff is pretty much exactly what the Dowager Countess ordered. Comedian Richard Sandling has put together a pretty epic video mash-up of the Crawley clan and all their servants performing One Direction's (ridiculously catchy) hit song “What Makes You Beautiful”.

Cobbling together bits of footage from all three seasons and both Christmas specials, Sandling actually gets the Downton crew through every single line of the song, save one, which gets a slight Edwardian update. All in all, it’s pretty fun.

And, as usual, Mr. Carson absolutely steals the show.

I’d probably watch the Downton gang do “Call Me Maybe” too, if someone wanted to make that. Just saying.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
