'The Agency' Adds David Harewood as Cast is Finalized
Showtime and Paramount+ have revealed the full roster for The Agency, the upcoming spy-thriller series starring Michael Fassbender (12 Years A Slave) as "Martian," an undercover spy ordered home to the U.K., only to discover his past isn't so easy to shake. The new series is an English language remake of the popular French series The Bureau (Le Bureau des Legendes), which is streaming on Acorn TV in the U.S. Casting announcements have been slowly dribbling out since the series was first announced in the summer of 2024, but now the entire lineup has been set, with David Harewood (Sherwood) joining the team.
Harewood is a British actor with an OBE and everything (he's also the current president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art!). However, American viewers would be forgiven for not knowing that much like most Americans have no idea Hugh Laurie is A: British and B: A comedian. On this side of the pond, Harewood is best known for his roles in Showtime's Homeland and the CW's Supergirl, in which he played very American characters.
That said, it's not surprising to see Harewood in The Agency, as both Homeland and Supergirl were produced via Paramount (though Supergirl was in conjunction with Warner Bros.). Harewood will appear as a recurring character, playing Dalaga, a Sudanese businessman. He's one of nine new faces joining an already-packed roster of British stars.
Here's the series synopsis:
The Agency follows Martian, a covert CIA agent who has been ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity, and his mission are pitted against his heart, hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.
Fassbender and Harewood are joined by Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace), Jodie Turner-Smith (Anne Boleyn), Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts), John Magaro (The Umbrella Academy), Andrew Brooke (Criminal Record), Harriet Sansom Harris (Atlantic Crossing), India Fowler (The Nevers), Saura Lightfoot-Leon (Hoard) and Richard Gere (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel). New additions also include Adam Nagaitis (The Responder), Ambreen Razia (Starstruck), Bilal Hasna (Extraordinary), Kurt Egyiawan (House of the Dragon), Ray BLK (Champion), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (The Ipcress File), Reza Brojerdi (SOKO Wismar) and Sabrina Wu (Murderbot).
Jez & John-Henry Butterworth wrote all episodes of The Agency, with director Joe Wright helming the first two episodes. The Butterworths, Wright, and Fassbender are also listed as executive producers alongside Keith Cox & Nina L. Diaz for Showtime; David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin & Bob Yari for 101 Studios; George Clooney & Grant Heslov for Smokehouse Pictures; Alex Berger for TOP – The Originals Productions; and Ashley Stern & Pascal Breton for Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.
The Agency is supposedly still arriving before the end of 2024.
