BritBox's rise from the nichiest-niche afterthought of a streaming service to the destination for British programming has been a slow climb since it was first announced seven years ago. However, having made three successful standalone Agatha Christie miniseries in partnership with the BBC, the streaming service is now striking out on its own to resurrect one of Christie's secondary detective duos. The service announced early in 2025 that it would be taking point on a brand new adaptation of the duo known as Partners in Crime, Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, the Bright Young Things from the detective writer's early novels. Now titled Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence, the new series will be a mystery of the week (or of every other week) reset in modern times.
Tommy and Tuppence don't have nearly as many novels as Jane Marple or Hercule Poirot; there are only six books and a handful of short stories, barely more than poor Superintendent Battle, who gets forcibly removed from his books whenever they get adapted. (BritBox's Murder Is Easy and Towards Zero are two of the most recent examples.) However, their high-energy hijinks and their compelling love story set them apart from Christie's other fare.
(Of course, that means the chemistry between the actors who play Tommy and Tuppence is vital to the show's success; the 2015 adaptation is an example of what happens when that chemistry doesn't work.)
With filming now underway in London, BritBox has released the first image of the leads in costume, as well as the rest of the cast roster joining them.

Here is the series (still very basic) logline:
The new series will reimagine Tommy and Tuppence Beresford in the modern world, more than a century after they first appeared together in Christie’s The Secret Adversary. In the first contemporary English language television series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories, Tommy and Tuppence are a detective duo for the ages. They fall in love, fall out of it, and tumble back in, all while solving some thrilling, entertaining mysteries along the way.
As we reported in August 2025, the series stars Antonia Thomas (Still Up) as Tuppence, Josh Dylan (The Buccaneers) as Tommy, and Imelda Staunton (The Crown) as Tommy's Aunt Ada. The main roster will also include Nicholas Richardson (Goodbye, Christopher Robin) as Julius, a charismatic film producer who is apparently married to Tuppence when the series starts (Scandalous!); Charlie Condou (Unforgotten) as Albert, Tommy’s BFF; Chizzy Akudolu (The Woman in the Wall) as the requistie no-nonsense DI Merriot; and Callie Cooke (Surface) as her sidekick, DS Draper.
As always, these shows are powered by the guest stars that turn up in the individual mysteries, and Tommy & Tuppence will be no exception. Season 1 will feature Sebastian De Souza (The Great), Sean Pertwee (The Hack), Saffron Burrows (Elementary), Alex Jennings (The Crown), Denise Black (Rivals), and Alice Krige (The Rig).
Phoebe Eclair-Powell will pen all six episodes, marking her first series commission for television. As part of the press release, she said this was a “dream come true” for a Christie superfan. “Christie’s detective duo are witty, sharp and raring to solve lots and lots of murders whilst asking if they should really be more than just partners in crime.” She will be joined by directors Fergus O’Brien (Happy Valley) and Ellie Heydon (Outrageous), who split helming duties across the show's six installments. Stella Merz will produce.
BritBox is teaming up with Lookout Point and Agatha Christie Limited, with Eclair-Powell listed as executive producer alongside Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar & Stephen Nye for BritBox, Laura Lankester, Katie Draper & Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, and James Prichard for Agatha Christie Limited.
Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence is expected to premiere on BritBox in 2026. The original 1980s era adaptation, Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime, starring James Warwick and Francesca Annis, is available to stream on PBS Passport for members. The 2015 adaptation with David Walliams and Jessica Raine is available on BritBox.
