We first reported on After The Flood back in February 2023, when Sophie Rundle (Gentleman Jack) first boarded the series as lead actor. It was Rundle's first time back in a police procedural since her turn in Happy Valley, and once again, her time as a cop was going to come with a twit, as the wholly original mystery series was going to be one where the horrors were compounded by climate change, as a sudden flood would complicate the investigation into the dead body discovered in a car park due to unpredictable weather patterns.

Since then, there's been little in the way of news on the project, which had just started filming back in February, other than the assurance that BritBox International was boarding the Quay Street productions series, which meant for Anglophiles, the show had a dedicated place to land in America after it debuted in the U.K., and it would not end up lost in the wilds of Max (like It's a Sin, another Quay Street show, did) or worse, not come here at all. But as the year rolls to a close and the release date for the U.K. is set, BritBox has released first-look photos.

The powerful imagery includes Rundle as PC Joanna Marshall, along with the rest of the cast, caught amid the flood that devastates a Yorkshire town and incites the thrilling events in After the Flood. Check out the rest of the main cast below.

Here's the series synopsis:

When an unidentified man is found dead in a lift in an underground car park police assume he became trapped as the waters rose, and as the investigation unfolds PC Joanna Marshall, played by Sophie Rundle, becomes obsessed with discovering what happened to him. How did he get in the lift and why does no one know who he is?

The mystery in After the Flood unfolds across the series while we also see the real impact of climate change on the lives of residents in this small town. The floods threaten to expose secrets, and fortunes and reputations are at stake. But how far will people go to protect themselves?

Rundle is joined by co-stars Nicholas Gleaves (The Crown), Philip Glenister (Belgravia), Lorraine Ashbourne (Bridgerton), and Jacqueline Boatswain (Ridley). The series also stars Matt Stokoe (Jamestown) and Jonas Armstrong (The Bay).

All six episodes of After the Flood are written by Mick Ford, who is known for his work on Stay Close, Living the Dream, and The Stranger, with director Azhur Saleem (Anansi Boys) helming all episodes. Juliet Charlesworth (Brassic) is the producer. Saleem and Charlesworth also executive produce, along with Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee for Quay Street Productions, Huw Kennair-Jones for ITV, and Reemah Sakaan and Stephen Nye for BritBox International.

After the Flood will premiere in the U.K. on ITV and ITVX on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, and follow on BritBox in the U.S. later in 2024.
