'Adolescence' Director To Helm 'Enola Holmes 3'

Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes in Enola Holmes' Key Art
Netflix
Millie Bobby Brown has had a less-than-ideal early 2025, with the latest Netflix-produced Russo Brothers movie she stars in, The Electric State, doing exactly as well with critics as everything else they've made since the 2018-2019 Avengers double whammy. Moreover, after a decade in the business, she's growing up, trying to dress the part, and overshooting the mark exactly as much as one would expect a newly married 21-year-old to. However, it's not all bad, even if the hit that made her famous, Stranger Things, fails to stick to the landing in the final season. The third installment of her self-made hit Enola Holmes has gone into production, so there's one success prepping to hit Netflix soon.
Brown continues to be one of Netflix's most prominent breakout celebrities, partly due to her ongoing work in Stranger Things but more because of how savvy she's become as a producer. She followed the example set by Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman: if the roles you want do not exist, go to option works that have them and produce them yourselves. In Winslet and Kidman's case, it's been about creating works with meaty roles for women over 40; for Brown, it's the same, except the meaty, heroic roles are for older teen girls, securing the rights to projects she wants to star in, surrounding herself with A-list talent, and staying true to her British sensibilities.
Of Brown's projects, the most successful has been the Enola Holmes franchise, based on the novels by Nancy Springer and adapted by writer Jack Thorne. The first two films were directed by Harry Bradbeer (Killing Eve), but for the third installment, Philip Barantini, who just helmed the Thorne-penned Adolescence, will take the reins. Thus far, all other details, including the synopsis, are being kept under wraps, but this seems like a massive upgrade for Brown's franchise.
Enola Holmes 3 has not announced its cast yet, but the series can't return without Brown, so it's a safe assumption she will once again co-star alongside an A-list team. The rest of the Sherlock family has thus far been played by Henry Cavill as Absolute Unit Sherlock, Sam Claflin as the elder and less absolute unit-sized Mycroft, and Helena Bonham Carter as the Holmes matriarch. The film is also expected to bring back Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade, Himesh Patel as Watson, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty, and Susan Wokoma as Edith.
Brown once again executive produces with father Bobby Brown, husband Jake Bongiovi & Isobel Richards for PCMA, alongside Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, and Alex Garcia for Legendary Entertainment
Filming for Enola Holmes 3 is expected to get underway in the coming weeks now that Brown has completed filming the final season of Stranger Things.
