There's something to be said for knowing your lane. Streaming service Acorn TV has established a reputation for itself in the world of quirky crime dramas, thanks to its distinctive storytelling and a string of successful series starring recognizable actors who are trying something new in their careers. From Lucy Lawless in My Life is Murder and Jane Seymour in Harry Wild to Stephen Moyer in Art Detectives, their cozy crime drama slate is steadily growing. The strategy is clearly working as the streamer's latest offering, the Alicia Silverstone-led Irish Blood, is racking up record-breaking numbers, and will be followed by another new series, Matthew Lewis in Murder Before Evensong.
Now production is set to begin on a new likely hit, a six-part mystery series called You're Killing Me (formerly known as Allie & Andi), which stars well-known actress, model, and entrepreneur Brooke Shields (Mother of the Bride). A New England-set crime drama that follows the story of a bestselling writer who joins forces with a popular influencer to find a killer, it's one of Acorn TV's first series of this ilk that's set in America. (While Irish Blood features a well-known American star, its story decamps for the green hills of Ireland within the series' first fifteen minutes.)
Shields will be joined by Amalia Williamson (Sullivan's Crossing) as Andi, an aspiring writer and podcaster who was once an up-and-coming celebrity in her own right before she lost it all. Tom Cavanagh (The Flash) has been tapped to play Jack, the new lead detective of the Founders Cove Police Department and a former city slicker who is trying to acclimate to the quirks of small-town life.
Here's the series' logline.
Set in a quaint New England colonial town, Allie & Andi is a six-episode murder mystery series following a bestselling novelist who forms an unlikely alliance with an aspiring writer and influencer to find the killer of a close friend.
The series is created by Robin Bernheim, known for her work on shows as diverse as Star Trek: Voyager and When Calls the Heart. She and Shields recently collaborated on the Netflix movie Mother of the Bride.
James Genn (The Good Doctor) will direct the first two episodes, with Scott Smith (The Magicians) and Paul Fox (Schitt's Creek) each helming two episodes. Bernheim and Shields executive produce, alongside Michael Volpe for Topsail Entertainment and Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie for Shaftesbury.
Production on You're Killing Me is set to begin next month in Nova Scotia, Canada, ahead of a planned 2026 release.
