AppleTV+ Orders Two New Additional Seasons of 'Slow Horses'

Apple TV+ is moving quickly with Slow Horses, granting the espionage drama a two-season renewal in the wake of its just-completed first season.

The drama, which is based on the popular Slough House series of spy novels by Mick Herron, stars Oscar-winner Gary Oldman as the head of a division of disgraced MI-5 spies.

Slow Horses was quietly renewed for a second season just prior to its Season 1 premiere back in April, which debuted to largely positive reviews. But the streamer is apparently a big believer in the series, and has also renewed it for Seasons 3 and 4. (Given how quickly virtually every other network appears to be canceling series or shortening orders, it's oddly nice to see one stand firmly behind its product.)

A darkly comedic espionage drama, the series follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who've all been reassigned to serve in a dumping-ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House. Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies, who have all essentially been removed from the field for a variety of career-ending mistakes. Desperate to find their way back into the field, these misfits are willing to do anything to impress their boss---whether it's a good idea or not.

In the forthcoming Season 3, Jackson Lamb’s disgraced spies will have to work together to foil a rogue agent when one of their own is kidnapped. Season 4 opens with a bombing that detonates personal secrets, rocking the already unstable foundations of Slough House.

The six-episode second season is expected to premiere later this year.

The series' stacked ensemble cast includes Academy Award nominee Kristin Scott Thomas (Rebecca) as Lamb's boss Diana Taverner, alongside Jack Lowden (The Long Song), Saskia Reeves (Roadkill), Rosalind Eleazar (Harlots), Christopher Chung (Waterloo Road), Freddie Fox (The Murders at White House Farm), Chris Reilly (Devils), Samuel West (All Creatures Great and Small), Sophie Okonedo (The Wheel of Time), Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Peaky Blinders), Kadiff Kirwan (This is Going to Hurt) and Academy Award nominee Jonathan Pryce (The Crown).

Slow Horses Season 1 is currently streaming on Apple TV+.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
