Jenna Coleman Drama ‘The Cry’ Gets a U.S. Release Date

Heart-wrenching drama The Cry will make its way to America this November on Sundance Now, AMC Networks’ direct-to-consumer streaming video on demand service. The four-episode series, which was the second biggest drama launch of the year for BBC One after the megahit thriller Bodyguard, will begin streaming on Thursday, November 8.

Victoria’s Jenna Coleman stars in this adaptation of the best-selling 2013 novel of the same name by Helen FitzGerald. The story follows a young couple whose baby is abducted while on a trip to a rural Australian town.

Coleman plays Joanna, a first-time mother who travels to Australia with her husband Alistar as part of a custody battle over his daughter from a previous marriage. Joanna finds herself at the center of an unthinkable tragedy after her son Noah goes missing, and must face both intense public scrutiny and the subsequent strain on her own relationship.

"I'm so proud to bring The Cry to the U.S. on Sundance Now,” Coleman said in a statement following the premiere annoucement in October. “Under the forensic pulse of the incredible Glendyn Ivan, we hope to take audiences on an unexpected journey that will stifle, surprise and in true psychological thriller form, keep audiences guessing right until the very end.”

Though The Cry will stream exclusively on Sundance Now, the Sundance Channel also holds the second run broadcast rights, which means that after its online window concludes it will air on terrestrial television there. But, at the moment, no one knows how long that online exclusive window might be, or when we could expect to see the drama in any other format.
