Everything British for PBS Viewers to Stream in June 2025

Robson Green and Rishi Nair in 'Grantchester' Season 10
Kudos/ITV/Masterpiece
June is a somewhat awkward month on PBS for several reasons. As an American broadcast station that submits series for awards consideration, June marks the beginning of the new TV year, since the Emmys eligibility calendar typically ends on May 31. However, as a public broadcaster with an educational mission, the actual company operates on an academic calendar (which starts in July), so as far as HR and fundraising are concerned, June marks the end of the year. That means local stations have two weeks of pledge programming at the beginning of the month to make a final donations push before closing the books.
The result is that June is usually lighter on new arrivals than some other months, since the first two weeks are dedicated to specials prebuilt with pledge breaks. (This is also the case for August, December, and March, though the latter two tend to make up for it with big debuts once pledge concludes.) June, however, is the start of the TV year and the traditional "Summer of Mysteries," which is currently anchored by fan favorite Grantchester, and will be instrumental in bringing in audiences to the newest addition to the PBS mystery lineup, Patience, the English-language remake of the Walter Presents French hit Astrid (Astrid & Raphaelle) reset in York.
It also marks the debut of PBS and the BBC's major event series, Walking with Dinosaurs, the follow-up to the extremely popular BBC series from 2001. That's not even getting into the latest show PBS has nabbed from BritBox or Walter Presents' newest titles. Let's run down everything British streaming and airing on local PBS stations for June 2025.
'Captivated'
There are two major British series debuts scheduled to arrive at the top of the month. The first is a series that streamed on BritBox in January 2025 and is now making its way to select local stations and PBS Passports, called Captivated. Originally titled Too Good to Be True when it aired on Channel 5 in 2024, Captivated stars Downton Abbey favorite Allen Leech as Elliot, a billionaire who becomes obsessed with housekeeper Rachel (Kara Tointon) to the point of stalking and terrorizing her and her son.
All four episodes of Captivated will premiere on select local stations and PBS Passports beginning Sunday, June 1, 2025. As always, check your local listings and streaming services.
'Foyle's War' Season 6-9
More Foyle, More War! Fan favorite Foyle's War, which aired on PBS from 2002 to 2015, debuted on PBS Passport for the first time since the streaming service launched in 2019, in June 2024. The initial batch featured the show's first five seasons, after which it was canceled; however, it was later reinstated following massive viewer protests. The series continued for another three seasons in the U.K., which were later divided into four for American viewers, technically taking the show to Season 9, despite the U.K. version actually only running for eight seasons. However you count them, the rest of the series episodes, starting with Season 6, are on their way.
All nine episodes of Foyle's War Seasons 6 through 8 (or 9) join Seasons 1 through 5 on PBS Passport on select local stations and PBS Passports starting Sunday, June 1, 2025. Much like we discussed in last month's post, it is imperative to check local listings and streaming services, as many stations will wait until the new fiscal year (i.e., July 1) to add the new seasons to their lineup, due to the current unpleasantness.
'Isolated' (Utö)
Most Walter Presents series originate from continental Europe, specifically from countries with large TV budgets, including France, Spain, Italy, and Germany. However, every so often, a banger arrives from Bulgaria or Estonia that's far better than it has any right to be. For June 2025, the honor goes to the Finnish series Isolated (Utö), which aired in its home country in January 2024. Set on the real-life Island of Utö, one of the significant parts of the Finnish Archipelago, the mystery begins when it is suddenly cut off from the outside world by supernatural forces.
All eight episodes of Isolated will debut on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Friday, June 6, 2025.
'The Last Settlement' (Am Ende – Die Macht der Kränkung)
Shout-out to my friend Jane, who resides in Berlin! Without her, I would never have uncovered Walter Presents' The Last Settlement is actually the second season of the German-Austrian anthology series Die Macht der Kränkung (The Power of Insult), titled Am Ende (In the End), which relays the story of the death of young David, whose letter at his funeral claims he was bullied to death. The first season, Am Anschlag – Die Macht der Kränkung (At the Limit – The Power of Insult), debuted a year earlier in 2021 and has not been picked up by Walter and friends. However, since it's an anthology series and features no crossover characters, Am Ende can be watched independently.
All six episodes of The Last Settlement will debut on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Friday, June 13, 2025.
'Patience' Season 1
Already renewed for Season 2, the Astrid remake, Patience, will finally premiere in mid-June. Like all the English-language remakes that come from Walter Presents' sister company Eagle Eye Drama, Patience's first season will follow the same story beats of Astrid Season 1, most likely for the entire six-episode season, before branching off on its own course. The new series stars Ella Maisy Purvis as neurodivergent protagonist Patience Evans (the series' titular analog of Astrid), and Laura Fraser (Outlander) as Bea Metcalf, the show’s version of Raphaëlle Coste.
Patience will premiere on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET, ahead of Grantchester's landmark tenth season. All six episodes will be available on PBS Passport on premiere day for members as a binge. As always, check your local listings.
'Grantchester' Season 10
Double Digits Double Fun! With the aforementioned landmark tenth season, Grantchester enters a rarefied club of Masterpiece shows that managed to reach Season 10, a group that includes Poirot (13 seasons), the 1980s-era Dalgliesh with Adam Marsden followed by Martin Shaw, and the original Morse with John Thaw (12 seasons a pop for both). This will be the show's first full season with Rishi Nair as the current Hot Vicar, partnered with Robson Green as the never-nearly-as-hot-as-his-vicar-pals, DCI Geordie Keating. Still, one should expect some celebration of the show hitting ten seasons, since the majority of the core cast has been on the show for the entire run.
Grantchester Season 10 will premiere on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET, directly following the premiere of Patience. All eight episodes will be available on PBS Passport on premiere day for members as a binge. As always, check your local listings.
'Walking with Dinosaurs'
Most people probably don't remember that PBS didn't pick up Walking with Dinosaurs when it originally debuted on the BBC in 2001, and that it was the Discovery Channel, which was still semi-science-based at the time, that aired the series in the U.S. It was also critically reviled as not real science, taking the "Jurassic Park CGI" and using it to pretend dinosaurs could walk among us. However, 25 years later, no one is criticizing CGI dinosaurs anymore, and Discovery isn't worth watching anyway unless you like reality shows aimed at working-class white dudes, so here we are debuting it on PBS, complete with an old-school "Dino Week" marketing campaign.
Walking with Dinosaurs will premiere on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel on Monday, June 16, with two episodes, followed by two episodes a day through Thursday, June 18, 2025. All episodes will be available for members to stream via PBS Passport on premiere day.
'Velvet' (Galerías Velvet) Season 3
Walter Presents remains bullish on the Spanish series Velvet (Galerías Velvet), which aired for four seasons on Antena 3 from 2014 to 2016. The series continues to receive direct-to-linear debuts on local stations when new seasons drop on PBS Passport. Being in Spanish is particularly helpful in this regard, as is the series being the rare Walter Presents offering that is a 1950s-set “family drama” and "feel-good romance." Season 3 sees Alberto, heir to the Velvet empire, rebel against expectations, while the love of his life, Ana, pushes to be recognized as a budding designer and not a working-class seamstress.
All 15 episodes of Velvet Season 3 will stream starting on Friday, June 20, 2025, on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel, and on Friday, June 27, in Canada, on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.
'One Step From Heaven' (Un Passo dal Cielo) Season 3
It's been a year and a half since the Italian series One Step From Heaven (Un Passo dal Cielo) Season 2 premiered on PBS Passport in December 2023, after the show's first season had debuted a mere six months earlier. Season 3 brings back Terence Hill as a commander of the State Forestry Corps in the Italian village of San Candido and Enrico Ianniello as the local State Police commissioner in an "odd couple solves crimes, but make it Italian" series. This is the last season with Hill; Daniele Liotti took over as the new partner, Francesco Neri, from Season 4 to Season 6 before stepping away, replaced by Gianmarco Pozzoli, who had been with the show as Huber Fabricetti since Season 1.
As with Seasons 1 and 2, One Step From Heaven Season 3 is listed as consisting of 10 episodes, all of which debut on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Friday, June 27, 2025. However, it seems less likely that this is the show condensing down from 12 or 14 installments, and more an indication that Season 3 will be split into Seasons 3 and 4, since it initially ran 19 episodes. One Step From Heaven is still airing in Italy with new episodes; Season 8 aired on RAI from January to March 2025, so there's more to come.
