The First 'Robin Hood' Trailer For the Latest Adaptation Feels Surprisingly Modern

Knowing you're going to have to live through something is one thing; actually keeping your temper in check when you're experiencing it is quite another. Even before Peak TV finally started to ebb, it was clear that the multiple streaming services currently in existence would not last long once the industry began to collapse back in on itself and the great rebundling started. The AMC Networks set of niche streamers, along with fellow struggling services Starz, Viaplay, and MHz Choice, would all eventually be absorbed by those who emerged on top.
However, it is hard not to get annoyed when a streaming service that has no business continuing, like MGM+, keeps hoarding good programming such as Rogue Heroes, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, and now Robin Hood, instead of just making them available on the parent company's Amazon Prime Video service where there's an actual chance someone might actually watch them.
It's relatively obvious why Amazon continues with the farcical notion that the streaming service it accidentally acquired during its twice-paid-for quest for Jeff Bezos to own James Bond might one day be a success: it's where the inevitable James Bond TV series will one day premiere. Perhaps when that fails to find any sort of audience, because no one outside the industry knows MGM+ exists, we can finally stop pretending it's a going concern.
However, today is not that day, and 2025 won't be that year. Instead, here's a trailer for a show that no one will see.
Here's the series' synopsis.
Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.
Newcomer Jack Patten, who hasn't got a decent credit to his name yet, will star as the titular outlaw, which is why all the marketing currently focuses on the Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings), and American actor Connie Nielsen (Gladiator II) as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Lauren McQueen (Belgravia: The Next Chapter) co-stars as Maid Marian, Steve Waddington (The Long Shadow) as her father, the Earl of Huntingdon. Marcus Fraser (Foundation) is Little John, Robin's most loyal and trusted ally; Angus Castle-Doughty (Showtrial) is the principled young monk Friar Tuck; Lydia Peckham (Nuremberg) is Priscilla of Nottingham; and newcomer-to-television Henry Rowley plays Will Scarlet.
Robin Hood is written by John Glenn (The Lazarus Project) and Jonathan English (The Librarians: The Next Chapter). English is directing the series pilot and will serve as producing director for the season. Todd Lieberman is the executive producer for Hidden Pictures.
Robin Hood will debut on MGM+ on Sunday, November 2, 2025, with two episodes followed by one a week through the end of the year. Perhaps once it's concluded, it will find its way to a streaming service that actually has a subscriber base.
