Get Your First Look at 'Call the Midwife' Season 6
Spring is almost here – which means it’s just about time for a brand new season of popular period drama Call the Midwife!
The new season premiered in the U.K in early January, and will begin its U.S. run on April 2. It will run on local PBS stations around the country through May 21. It’ll be paired with the final season of period drama Home Fires for a night of solid television all around.
What do we know about the new season of Call the Midwife thus far? Not too much. Or at least, not much beyond the fact that it’ll probably make us cry every week. The official press description of Season 6 provides a few tidbits, most notably the introduction of newcomer Sister Ursula.
Per the official press release:
Season 6 begins in 1962 and it is evident how times are changing, from increased liberation for women to the shadow of infamous gangsters to the introduction of new government policies. In Poplar, when the rather austere Sister Ursula is appointed the new head of Nonnatus House, Sister Julienne finds herself demoted and working alongside the midwives as an ordinary member of the staff. She is not the only one to face challenges closer to home. As they strive to help mothers and families cope with the demands of childbearing, disability, disease and social prejudice, the beloved medics must make choices — and fight battles — of their own.
So…not very specific, huh?
Something else we do know is that fan favorite Miranda Hart won’t be back this season, despite previous reports following Season 5 that Chummy would be returning. Sadness!
PBS has released a trailer for Call the Midwife’s Season 6 premiere. The clip stresses the big changes in store for the women of Nonnatus House, as well as the arrival of new faces:
The British trailer, released earlier this year on BBC One is a little more plot-centric, but not much:
The drama has already been renewed for three more seasons beyond this one. Seasons 7, 8 and 9 will also be comprised of eight episodes plus a holiday installment, so we’ve got plenty more adventures with these women still to come.
Will you be tuning in to Season 6 this April? Let us know! (And if you need a quick refresher on what happened last year? We’ve got recaps for that right this way.)
