As another television year fades to black, PBS stations close the book on 2024, a year that included releases for both new and existing series. From unexpected treats like The Marlow Murder Club and Gemma Arterton’s grounding performance in Funny Woman to a satisfying ending to Moonflower Murders, there were plenty of PBS highs throughout the year.

January is already starting with a bang, with PBS air dates set for the return of Vienna Blood Season 4, Lucy Worsley Investigates Season 2, and a very Duke-less Miss Scarlet, which remains curious, indeed.

Television debuts never quite go according to plan, especially when PBS airs so many British productions that premiere in the U.K. and then roll out to exclusive territory premieres in other countries like the United States. As such, the confirmation of several very anticipated 2025 PBS premieres, including Patience (the U.K. remake of Astrid), the Phyllis Logan headlining mystery The Puzzle Lady, and Masterpiece’s The Forsyte Saga, which aims to appeal to those who love HBO’s The Gilded Age, have yet to announce release dates.

However, there’s still plenty to get excited about, so here’s a rundown of the shows we know are arriving in 2025.

'Astrid' Season 4

France 2

Astrid, the hit French mystery series (originally titled Astrid et Raphaëlle), returns for its fourth season featuring the unlikely, unofficial criminal investigation team of autistic archivist Astrid Neilsen (Sara Mortensen) and detective Raphaëlle Coste (Lola Dewaere). The series is part of PBS’s curated international anthology offerings under the Walter Presents banner, which streams on the U.K.’s Channel 4. Season 4 promises cases that involve everything from a haunted house to a crime scene locked from the inside and a victim who supposedly dies of fear. Check out our review of Seasons 1 and 2 to brush up on how far this pair has come over three seasons of investigations.

Astrid Season 4 streams on Friday, January 3, 2025, on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel, with all episodes arriving on the same day.

Based on the Liebermann novels by Frank Tallis, the British-Austrian procedural Vienna Blood returns for what producers say might be its fourth and final season. Set in 1909, Dr. Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard) and Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt (Juergen Maurer) reunite in Vienna to investigate perhaps their most important case. Together, they must find a traitor named “Mephisto,” who is selling state secrets that have the potential to destabilize the Austro-Hungarian empire. Check out our Season 3 finale recap to revisit where the series left off in early 2023.

Vienna Blood Season 4 premieres on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel, and airs weekly. All episodes will be available to stream for members on PBS Passport on premiere day.

Can any of us imagine private detective Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips) without Detective Inspector William "Duke" Wellington (Stuart Martin) by her side, flirting and wheedling as they investigate cases in Victorian London? We’ll all have to adjust quickly because in Season 5 change is coming! First off, the series name has been rechristened to just Miss Scarlet. Where is the Duke? He’s relocated to New York City, which means Eliza is investigating solo. To keep her agency going, Eliza has to ingratiate herself with Wellington’s replacement, Scotland Yard Detective Inspector Alexander Blake (Tom Durant Pritchard), who has a distaste for using the aid of private detectives. Revisit where Season 4 left off with our recap.

Miss Scarlet Season 5 premieres on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET on local PBS stations and the PBS app. All episodes have and has been available to stream on PBS Passport since December 8, 2024.

The return of Academy Award and BAFTA winner Mark Rylance to our screens is always a good time, only to be improved when he’s paired with feisty Damian Lewis as they spar and verbally rumble as Thomas Cromwell and King Henry VIII, respectively. This sequel series reunites the men to portray the last four years of Cromwell’s life, where the powerbroker with a conscience navigates the court of his capricious king. A ratings hit in the U.K., Wolf Hall: Mirror and Light adapts Hilary Mantel’s third Cromwell tome, The Mirror & the Light, focusing on the machinations of the man at his highest notoriety, and then his eventual fall from grace and execution.

Wolf Hall: The Mirror & The Light (aka Wolf Hall Season 2) premieres on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel, and airs weekly. All episodes will be available to stream for members on PBS Passport on premiere day

Jane Austen fans have been chomping at the bit since 2022, waiting for this Masterpiece adaptation of Gil Hornsby’s novel Miss Austen. The limited series dramatizes Hornsby’s imagining of what precipitated Cassandra Austen to burn the personal letters of her sister, Jane Austen, to keep them from the outside world. Keeley Hawes plays Cassandra, with Patsy Ferran playing Jane, and dives into the dynamics of the Austen household.

Miss Austen is expected to arrive on PBS in May 2025 and land on PBS Passport with all episodes on premiere day.

'Marie Antoinette' Season 2

A proper costume drama courtesy of Canal+, Marie Antoinette Season 2 picks up the story of the French queen and her king, Louis XVI, after they’ve finally come to an accord in their marriage. Together, they’ll next face financial problems, attacks from Provence and Chartres, and the simmering anger of the nobles unhappy with their rule.

Marie Antoinette Season 2 is expected to arrive on PBS in 2025 and land on PBS Passport with all episodes on premiere day.
