Amazing Internet Things: Doctor Who Visualized as an RPG

DWlogo2.jpg
This is one of those Amazing Internet Things that is so fantastic, you’ll actually be sad that it’s not real.

In this fabulous video, Doctor Who is done up as a 16-bit Super Nintendo-style RPG, complete with fishfingers and custard, time travel shenanigans, Weeping Angels, leveling up, and so many wonderful in-jokes that you probably will want to watch the entire last two seasons over again as soon as you can. (I felt like that. It’s totally normal.)

A Quick Warning: This video thoroughly spoils the plot for Seasons 5 and 6 of Doctor Who (a.k.a. the Matt Smith Years So Far). If you’re still catching up, bookmark this for later, mostly because it’s really ever so much funnier if you’ve seen all of the episodes this video covers. So, with that said, click through and have a look for yourself!

In short, I wish this game existed! Someone at Nintendo get on this!

My favorite bits:

  • RORY left the party…..also, existence.
  • Skip explanation and accept that’s just how time works on this show? Yes/No/Allons-y!
  • "So, wait... you're still alive, that alien is wearing a suit and I'm pregnant, maybe? How is any of this happening?" TIME TRAVEL.
  • AMY and RORY level up….they are now PARENTS!

Here's hoping someone does a sequel after Series 7 airs! (Or maybe does a David Tennant one? Just in case anyone out there with any klout is listening...)

Lacy Baugher

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
